This design has a long upper keel with fin and skeg underneath it. The upper keel is built first, in the cradle, and forms the backbone on top of which the hull is assembled. The fin and skeg will be added later when the hull has been removed from the building cradle.

The pipe has now been split and the ends are being trimmed to match the hull and lower plate.

Checking fit against the hull.
This builder fitted the leading edge after plating the hull but it can be done earlier, as part of the upper keel construction before the bottom skin panels are fitted.
