Shearwater Yachts

Richard Acheson, founder of Shearwater Yachts, is an experienced professional skipper of high quality private and charter yachts. In this work and as a delivery skipper, he has accumulated 100 000 sea miles of sailing knowledge. He has turned his experience of quality craft to building beautiful boats for the serious passagemaker.

The first boat of our design which he built was the Shearwater 39, "Askari", which he built for himself in the late 1980s. He and his wife cruised many thousands of miles on his immaculate handiwork before selling her on the USA West Coast.

After the sale of "Askari", Shearwater Yachts was set up to build quality yachts of classic styling, seaworthy concepts which are excellent investments for the discerning buyer. They build on a semi-custom basis with great attention to detail, allowing subtle variations to suit each individual owner. In build at the moment is a Shearwater 39 destined for the USA market.

Builders of the Shearwater 39 and 45, they can also undertake custom construction of other sizes of similar craft.

As testimony to the excellent standard of work done by this small custom yard, Shearwater Yachts received the "Traditional Voyager of the Year" and overall "Boat of the Year" in the Cruising World 2001 Awards, for the Shearwater 45.
